pon·der·A·tious·ly
Performing thought without conducting any — the held pause, the stroked chin, the hmm that precedes no consideration.
He received the objection ponderatiously and answered it unchanged.
Etymologyponder + -atious.
NoteThe weakest entry here, and one of mine. Built to replace ponderingciously, on a suffix described as freely productive when it is not — -atious is licensed by an -ation noun beneath it (ostentation, flirtation, vexation, disputation) and ponderation is archaic. It reached a sense ponderingly already covered. Three faults, all mine, on a word substituted for someone else's. Kept as a record of the reasoning, not as a recommendation.
